I could be the tallest flower in your garden. Can you grow the tallest, sunniest sunflower? When I have finished flowering leave the flowerheads out to feed the birds over the winter. Height: 2m+.Did You Know? - Not all sunflowers are yellow or tall. Look for furry-looking teddy bear types, different colours and ones with several flowers on one stem.
Culinary note: Some parts of these flowers are edible. For more details about edible flowers click here.
For indoor sown plants - when all risk of frost has gone, plant me outside somewhere sunny and well-drained.
Measure how tall your sunflowers grow and how big the flower head is.

We had great fun this summer as the three children went into the garden, dug a small hole and placed their little sunflower in the ground. We watered the tiny seed every day and slowly a small stem appeared. What joy the children had on their faces when their sunflower opened up. Then they became quite competitive to see whose sunflowers was the tallest. My daughter had the tallest but my eldest son his is still flowering so it lasted the longest. Amazing fun for all the family. Caroline Baum
