Perennial & Biennial Seeds

Biennials live for 2 years, whereas perennials live for longer. As a general rule, biennial and perennial seeds should be sown in spring, but some can be sown in autumn as well. Many varieties will self-seed after flowering, giving you even more plants!

Sarracenia species 'New Hybrids Mixed'

Pitcher Plant

Seemingly innocent, the leaves of the pitcher plant have evolved into water-filled funnels that hide a sinister purpose. These intriguing carnivorous plants devour insects to improve their diet and counter poor nitrogen levels in the soils of their natural habitats. Lured by the promise of sweet nectar-like secretions on the lip of each pitcher, their victims are met by a slippery footing and tumble to a watery death deep within each funnel. Endlessly fascinating, Sarracenia species 'New Hybrids Mixed' make a captivating talking point for the greenhouse, conservatory or a windowsill indoors. Plants will be mature enough to catch insects after 2 - 3 years. Height: 30cm (12"). Spread: 20cm (8"). More info

Adenium x hybrida, Desert Rose

  • Grow your own desert rose

Adenium is a distinctly different succulent plant, rarely offered from seed. We have secured our seed stock from hand-pollinated plants, guaranteeing high germination and easy success on the windowsill. As the plants age, they develop an eye-catching wide trunk, taking on a bonsai-like appearance. This is topped with rose-like blossom, giving rise to the common name 'desert rose'. An exciting, otherworldly plant to grow from seed, which will bloom within a few years from sowing. Best grown as a container plant in a sunny spot- move indoors over winter for years of pleasure. Desmodium 'The Dancing Plant'

Desmodium gyrans (syn. Codariocalyx motorius), Telegraph Plant, Semaphore Plant

  • Amazing dancing plant
  • Moves to sound and light!
  • Foliage plant with real wow factor
This plant needs to be seen to be believed! Forget those tacky dancing flowers from the 1980s, now you can grow your own dancing windowsill plant. Desmodium is one of the few plants capable of rapid movement, and has enraptured plant hunters and naturalists for centuries. Charles Darwin, good friend of our company founder William Thompson, was enthralled by this Asian shrub, writing about it at length in his 1880 book ‘The Power of Movement in Plants’. Each large leaf moves to maximise exposure to sunlight, but to conserve its energy, a pair of smaller leaflets at the base of each leaf are constantly on the move in the search for sunlight. Cleverly, the information gathered by these leaflets is then used to move the larger leaves as required! Come dark of night the leaves droop to rest until sun up. Even more astoundingly, and still unexplained by science, the foliage will also respond to certain sounds, especially high-pitched notes. Try it for yourself, play your plants some different genres - we’d love to hear if they show a preference for rock, classical or pop! Height and Spread: 120cm (59")
