A selection made from Lupinus chamissonis. Its lovely silver grey foliage will creep and cascade through other plants in borders. Unlike the original, this selection is vigorous and hardy with gorgeous blue and white stumpy flower spikes.
If sown early, it will flower in its first year.
Sow February to June or September to October. Soak seed overnight in warm water before sowing. Place seed on the surface of good free draining compost and cover with a sprinkling of compost of vermiculite. Place container in a propagator or seal container inside a polythene bag and place at a temperature of 15-20C (59-68F) until after germination, which usually takes 18-21 days.
When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into 7.5cm (3in) pots or trays. Gradually acclimatise plants to cooler conditions for a few weeks before planting out after all risk of frost, 30cm (12in) apart.
Over-winter September sowings in a cold frame and plant out the following spring.
Caution: harmful if eaten
