Sow February to June or September to October at 13-15C (55-59F) on the surface of a good free draining, damp seed compost. Cover with a very fine sprinkling of compost. Place in a propagator or seal container inside a polythene bag until after germination which usually takes 14-21 days. Do not exclude light at any stage, as this helps germination.

Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into 7.5cm (3in) pots. Grow on in cool, well lit conditions. Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions before planting out 30cm (12in) apart.

Later sowings can be overwintered in a coldframe and planted out the following spring.

Caution: irritant to skin and eyes, harmful if eaten.

Reviews
  1. Nothing to get too excited about.

The heads are pretty small and look like a lot of other flowers after they have lost their petals. I wait to see if they improve in the 2nd yr, but wont be sowing again

  2. Something different

    By Warwick Furnell 06-09-2012

A lovely different gem, sowed in normal compost with excellent germination rate, plant in a clump of even individually they make an interesting focal point. Bees loved this as it's a good size open flower head not to big but just big enough. i have mine mixed with ornamental grass.
