Sophisticated climber, masses of 1½in indigo to violet blue, pink or pure white flowers. Quick to bloom from an early sowing. Ideal for the cold greenhouse or conservatory. One of the longest flowering annuals, in bloom untill Christmas if there is no hard frost or in the greenhouse during winter. Climbs to 120-240cm (4-8ft).
When large enough to handle, transplant the seedlings into 7.5cm (3in) pots, and grow on in cooler conditions. When well rooted, plant into baskets or container, using a good soil-less compost with some Sow-Lite (vermiculite) added. Leave in a shaded greenhouse for 2 weeks and then gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions for 10-15 days before moving outdoors, after all risk of frost has passed, to a sunny, sheltered spot.
Water well and feed once a week through the summer. To overwinter, bring indoors to a cool, frost free place in autumn and keep just moist. For a windowsill pot plant, grow on in a 13cm (5in) pot.
