Sow late winter to spring at 15-20C (60-70F) in John Innes Seed Compost. Sow seed on surface of compost and gently firm down compost. Keep soil damp but not wet, but do not exclude light, which is beneficial to germination. Sealing in a polythene bag after sowing is also helpful. Germination usually takes 15-21 days.

When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant and grow on in cooler conditions for 10-15 days before planting out after all risk of frost, 30cm (12in) apart in a sunny spot on light well drained soil.

Seeds and garden supplies will normally be delivered within the time period stated against each product as detailed above.

  1. Quite amusing!

    By KRYSTAL CUNNINGHAM 10-02-2017

What compelled me to buy this seed was the colour and when I read that they open in the afternoon, I thought yeah right, but they really do! First, these are dainty things but my goodness the bold and striking colour just make you smile, they look special and fun but they, for us, only opened in the afternoon so I rushed to get my camera to take the odd picture but to be honest I was so happy with the way they lifted the edging in my garden I forgot the camera and just enjoyed them.

  2. Stunning & hardy

I love Mesembryanthemums and grow them every year from seed. They are very easy to grow and don't mind dry conditions. Occasionally I have skipped a year, and missed them so much! So I made sure I grew them the following year! They always get lots of compliments from friends, neighbours and passers by. They sow easily and I add them to my baskets, pots and front of my walls so they cascade down.
