Hydrangea macrophylla 'Love'

Hardy Shrub

Sister line to the Chelsea 2014 Plant of the Year Hydrangea ‘Miss Saori’! Although more subtle, this superb double flowered Hydrangea is equally impressive. Individual tiered blooms form gently rounded flower heads in the softest shade of baby pink. Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Love’ makes a breathtaking specimen shrub and a splendid cut flower too. Perfect for adding elegant blooms and richly coloured autumn foliage to borders and patio containers. Height and spread: 100cm (39").

Powerliner® plugs are well established, mature plugs which can be potted on or can be planted straight into the border or containers. Each plug module is 6.5cm in diameter.

Hydrangea macrophylla prefers a sunny or semi shaded position, with shelter from cold, drying winds. Grow hydrangea plants in any rich fertile, moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding with plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. Alternatively plant Hydrangea macrophylla in patio containers in soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.
Water regularly until plants are fully established. Leave the faded Hydrangea flower heads in place until the new buds swell in spring to protect the delicate buds from frost damage. Prune after flowering, reducing the stems to restrict their growth to the available space and to improve the shape of the plant. After pruning Hydrangeas, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant. Caution: Contact with Hydrangea foliage may irritate the skin and eyes and all parts are harmful if eaten.

  1. Enormous Bloom

    By 03-08-2016

My neighbours and visitors to our house have all commented that this is the biggest Hydrangea flower they have ever seen. If memory serves, it is “Love” which we bought from you and planted a year ago. Presently the flower is a good 24cms across, which is about the diameter of the pot it is in.

  2. Good

I did write earlier saying this plant was failing. However I had planted it in old compost and now after replanting in New compost it is now thriving. It obviously needs fresh compost
