Rose 'Hot Chocolate'

Rosa

Hardy Shrub

  • Large flowered Hybrid tea
  • Fragrant floribunda
  • Unusual blooms
With the colours of a rich, indulgent hot chocolate drink this cracking rose is a bit different to the usual reds, pinks and yellows you see in your neighbours' gardens! The name alludes to the rusty orange blooms which open out to a rich smoky brown. While the colours will remind you of chocolate, the scent is rich and fruity as you would expect from a hybrid tea variety. With the disease resistance you've come to expect from modern roses, 'Hot Chocolate' repeat-flowers throughout the summer and early autumn, making it an economical and long lasting addition to borders. Use some of the flower stems as cut flowers for unique vase displays. Height: 75cm (30"). Spread: 60cm (24").,

Culinary note: Some parts of these flowers are edible. Rosehips and petals can be used in making syrups and the petals will add flavour to cold drinks or fruit dishes. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Plant roses at the earliest opportunity following delivery. To avoid the risk from the build-up of harmful soil organisms and disease, choose an open position in full sun that has not been planted with roses in recent years. Roses enjoy a rich, fertile, well drained soil. Dig in plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting roses and add a small handful of granular fertiliser to the planting hole.
Feed and water rose plants regularly and deadhead faded flowers. When growing roses it is necessary to remove any suckers that arise from the base of the plant, below the graft union. In late summer, begin pruning hybrid musk roses by removing dead and diseased wood, and any rubbing or damaged branches. Then reduce the stems by ⅔. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant after pruning.
