Pot up petunia plants and grow them on in warm frost-free conditions for transplanting later on. Pinch out the growing tip of each stem to encourage branching and form a bushier plant which will produce more flowers later on. When all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days, before transplanting them outdoors into baskets, window boxes and containers in well drained soil, in full sun.
Feed and water petunia plants regularly, particularly during hot, dry periods. Regular deadheading of petunia flowers will encourage further blooms to be produced throughout the summer.

  1. Ground Cover Plants

    By Alun Owen 02-09-2012

Fantastic as ground cover but I also had enough to fill a two tier planter so they work equally well as basket plants on their own. I brought them on in biodegradeable peat pots in the potting shed (I found the larger pots best) and planted them out when the weather improved - the root system was showing through the peat pots so I knew they were strong enough for planting out). I had some problems with slugs when planting as ground cover (which is why I tried the baskets) so bear that in mind. Well pleased with the results and intend getting again when avialble next year.

  2. By Popular Request

    By Susan Sloman 09-04-2012

I plant up my brother's garden borders for his birthday present (a great idea for the man who has everything) and he has just put in a request for the same as last year, the Petunia 'Ramblin', as they were so attractive & easy to maintain. Oh and while I was about it, could I order some for his neighbour as he was really impressed as well!
