Grow Verbena bonariensis in a sheltered position in any moist, well drained soil in full sun.
Feed and water plants regularly until they are fully established. Verbena flowers do not require dead heading. In autumn, apply a dry mulch of bark chips or straw to protect the crown of the plant throughout the winter months. Cut back the old stems when new shoots emerge at the base of the plant in spring.

I brought 2 potted Verbena bonariensis in the spring for the border. I had always admired it in show gardens and walled gardens in the past, so thought I would get some for our garden. We have been amazed by the strength and structure of this plant. It has grown to it's full height and the vibrant violet blooms are beautiful and long lasting. We will be adding more to the border next year, due to it's success. I would say it's a definite buy for any border. Fabulous !
