A sunny position in well drained soil is ideal for growing iris. Bearded iris rhizomes prefer an open position where the rhizomes can bake in the summer sun, without being shaded by other plants. These perennials require a very free draining soil, so amend heavy clay soils with plenty of grit and well rotted manure prior to planting. When planting iris, ensure that the rhizome sits just at the soil surface as they are prone to rot if planted too deeply.
Overcrowded clumps of bearded iris plants can be divided in late summer after flowering. Avoid mulching the rhizomes to prevent them from rotting over winter. Caution: Irritant to skin and eyes. Harmful if eaten.

  1. In anticipation...

    By Sarah Wood 25-06-2016

2 years on i still dont know what colour these are! Theyre all still alive with great leaves but no flowers. How many more years do i give them? V keen to see some colour from these.

Thank you for your review. I am sorry that your plants haven't yet flowered. If you would like to email the Customer Care Team - one of my colleagues will be more than happy to offer some horticultural advice on how to encourage flowering.

  2. Not the right iris!

    By Amelia Whittaker 21-05-2016

After they didn't flower last year, I was giving them another year to sort themselves out. This year I have had flowering - but they are all two tone purple irises. They are very nice - but given that they were principally bought for the red, orange and yellow, they aren't meet the requirements for the border they're in.

Thank you for your review. I am sorry to learn of the mix up with your purchase. If you would like to contact our Customer Care Department at, one of our agents will be more than happy to look in to this further for you.
