A sunny position in well drained soil is ideal for growing iris. Bearded iris rhizomes prefer an open position where the rhizomes can bake in the summer sun, without being shaded by other plants. These perennials require a very free draining soil, so amend heavy clay soils with plenty of grit and well rotted manure prior to planting. When planting iris, ensure that the rhizome sits just at the soil surface as they are prone to rot if planted too deeply.
Overcrowded clumps of bearded iris plants can be divided in late summer after flowering. Avoid mulching the rhizomes to prevent them from rotting over winter. Caution: Irritant to skin and eyes. Harmful if eaten.

had a replacement delivery last year as the 2013 order did not flower. however , the replacement only produced 3 blue / purple flowers, not an orange or rust colour to be seen, as 2 again have not flowered. I so did like the advertised colour mix, very disappointed overall.

Most disappointing plant purchase ever.

I have also been very disappointed with these. I have had them for 2 - 3 years and only one has ever flowered - once in the first year. They have been put on lots of root growth, the tubers have grown to a size i can split so I now have four times as many as I purchased, but the lack of blooms is a real disappointment. They have now all been composted and I'll be giving their space to other plants. Not what I have come to expect from Thompson and Morgan.
