A sunny position in well drained soil is ideal for growing iris. Bearded iris rhizomes prefer an open position where the rhizomes can bake in the summer sun, without being shaded by other plants. These perennials require a very free draining soil, so amend heavy clay soils with plenty of grit and well rotted manure prior to planting. When planting iris, ensure that the rhizome sits just at the soil surface as they are prone to rot if planted too deeply.
Overcrowded clumps of bearded iris plants can be divided in late summer after flowering. Avoid mulching the rhizomes to prevent them from rotting over winter. Caution: Irritant to skin and eyes. Harmful if eaten.

Not the right iris!
By Amelia Whittaker 21-05-2016
After they didn't flower last year, I was giving them another year to sort themselves out. This year I have had flowering - but they are all two tone purple irises. They are very nice - but given that they were principally bought for the red, orange and yellow, they aren't meet the requirements for the border they're in.

Not the same as the pictures and no scent
By Christine King 14-05-2016
I had some trouble with these as they were somewhat rotten in the packets when I got them. Customer services were very helpful, and sent out replacements. They were delivered and planted in late August early September 2014 and have flowered for the first time this year (2016). But they are not the varieties in the pictures. Quite different, most with contrasting dark falls and all with no scent whatsoever. So they will probably not flower twice either. They are planted in the garden attached to my mother's flat. As she is 96, it is very dissapointing as getting hold of replacements which take a couple of years to mature might well mean that she never sees them. I am very disappointed.
