Candytuft 'Pink Ice' (Large Plant)

Iberis

Hardy Perennial

Iberis 'Pink Ice' is an unusual, hardy Candytuft, which carries sprays of white, fragrant blooms, which smother the evergreen foliage over a long period. Iberis 'Pink Ice' thrives in poor soils, and plants are particularly useful for ground cover in sunny borders, planting in rockeries or on top of walls.

Iberis is a shrubby perennial, which is perfect for the front of borders, where it will attract beneficial insects with its sweetly scented flowers. Height: 30cm (12"). Spread: 50cm (20").

Culinary note: Both the leaves and flowers of candytuft can be eaten raw and have a taste similar to that of a sweet broccoli. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Pot up candytuft plants into pots of free-draining compost, and grow them on in frost free conditions until large enough to plant outside. When all risk of frost has passed and plants are well grown, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days. Grow Iberis outdoors in any moist, well drained, non-acidic soil in full sun.
Water regularly until candytuft plants are fully established. After flowering, cut back the plants to remove faded candytuft flowers and maintain a neat, compact habit.
