Grow Cyclamen in a well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter, in partial or dappled shade. Work some organic matter such as well-rotted manure or compost into the soil prior to planting. Cyclamen grow best in the dappled shade of trees and shrubs, which helps avoid excessive summer moisture. When planting Cyclamen make sure the rough side of the tuber with the old stems and roots protruding is facing up and the smoother, rounded side is facing down. Plant the corms at a depth of just 3cm (1").
In autumn allow the foliage to die back naturally as this will help to feed the tubers for the following year. Mulch Cyclamen tubers with leaf mould to protect them from hard frosts. Where Cyclamen are grown under deciduous trees, simply leave a covering of fallen leaves over the top of the tubers. Caution: harmful if eaten.
