Chrysanthemum 'Hardy Patio Mixed'

Hardy Perennial

As the days shorten, these shimmering chrysanthemums come into their own. Bright colours and long-lasting blooms give a real boost to the autumn garden when many things are looking tired. This collection of hardy perennial patio Mums will reward you with rounded domes of colour from September right through until the first frosts. Superb for growing in borders and containers, and the sturdy stems make excellent cut flowers too. Our young plants are supplied as a mix of 4 named varieties. Height: 100cm (39"). Spread: 60cm (24").

Companion planting: Try growing Chrysanthemums with chives, whose aromatic leaves will deter aphids.

Pot up hardy chrysanthemum plants and grow them on in bright frost free conditions. Pinch out the top 5cm of each stem when they reach a height of 15cm to produce a bushier plant with more flowers. When all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise chrysanthemum plants to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days before planting them out in borders and containers in fertile, well drained soil. Choose a position in full sun.
Water regularly until hardy chrysanthemums are fully established. In late autumn the application of a deep mulch will help to protect the crowns of the plants over winter. Leave the flowered stems intact until spring as these will also offer some winter protection. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes.

  1. Not Hardy

I expected these 'hardy perennials' to cope with a mild winter, but only one has survived and that is because I overwintered it in the greenhouse.
