Fuchsia 'Mr Blue Sky'

Half-hardy Perennial

  • Sought after trailing fuchsia with blue blooms
  • Perfect talking point for baskets and window boxes

Blue is a must-have colour for any type of flowering plant - for plant breeders and many home gardeners it is the horticultural holy grail! When we were shown the pure blue petals on trailing Fuchsia 'Mr Blue Sky' we knew we had to make it available for our customers.

Pinks, purples and white are the common shades for fuchsias, but add this blue beauty to your hanging baskets and window boxes and you'll have a real head-turner of a display this summer. Fuchsias are the perfect addition to summer schemes, they'll thrive in awkward shady spots, but will be perfectly happy in sunny locations too - no matter the summer weather you can be sure of a stunning display from our fuchsia plants. The unusual flowers of Fuchsia 'Mr Blue Sky' will literally drip from the cascading stems from early summer through to the first hard frosts of winter. Height and spread: 45cm (18").

Plant trailing fuchsias directly into baskets, window boxes, Flower Pouches™ and containers, in any well drained compost. Grow them on in warm, frost free conditions. Pinch out the growing tips of each plant while they are still small to promote bushier growth and more flowers. When all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise fuchsia plants to outdoor conditions over a 7 to 10 day period, prior to placing them in their final positions in sun or semi shade.
Feed and water plants regularly throughout the growing season. Deadhead faded fuchsia flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced. Apply a deep mulch of bark around the base of hardy fuchsias in autumn to protect the roots from winter cold. Take care not to mound mulch up against the main stem. Prune stems back to a low permanent framework in spring.

  1. Mr. Blue Sky arrival

    By Jenny Ovens 04-04-2016

Yet again plants have arrived in a poor condition. One is probably not going to make it; the other four have lost a number of leaves. They have been quickly planted in the hopes that most of them survive but they were definitely not happy.
