Passiflora

Hardy Bulb

  • Three attractive varieties
  • Fast growing
  • Add an exotic look to your garden

Our fantastic collection of three attractive Passiflora varieties, commonly called passion flowers make an eye-catching way to quickly cover walls and fences. Large flowers and vigorous growth make this collection one not to miss. They will add a lovely, exotic look and feel to your garden, quickly covering unsightly walls and fences with their twining stems, glossy foliage and glamorous blooms. Height: Up to 10m (32’). Supplied as plug plants.

  • Collection comprises:
  • Passiflora caerulea ‘Blue' - Large flowers with a circle of white and striking blue spikes and semi-evergreen foliage
  • Passiflora racemosa ‘Reddish' - Stunning red flowers with lime green centres adorn this delightful evergreen climber.
  • Passiflora 'Lavender Lady' - Pink edged petals with lavender centres.

Culinary note: The fruits of passiflora are edible, albeit somewhat unremarkable in taste. They can be used in preserves and desserts. P. edulis, grown under glass will produce the best fruit for eating. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Pot up passion flower plants and grow them on in warm frost-free conditions with a minimum temperature of 5°C (41°F). When plants are well grown, transplant them into their final positions in a warm conservatory, heated greenhouse, or patio container that can be kept frost-free position during winter. When growing Passion Flower ‘Perfume Passion’ in patio containers use a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3. Train plants onto a suitable support such as trellis or a freestanding climbing frame.
Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season. Prune passion flowers in spring, removing the oldest stems first, and reducing the remaining stems to restrict their growth to the space available.
