Annual Plants

Annual plants fall under two categories - hardy and half-hardy. Hardy annuals can be grown outdoors and will tolerate cooler tempratures, whereas the more tender half-hardy annuals need protection and must not be planted out until all risk of frost has passed. These delightful summer flowers add colour and interest to beds, borders, containers and hanging baskets.

Salvia Collection

Sage

  • Award winning selection
  • 7 months of colour
  • Drought tolerant and fuss-free

We've paired together our two favourite salvia introductions of recent years. Enjoy the reddish-purple flowers of Salvia 'Love and Wishes' alongside the scarlet-red funnels of 'Ember's Wish' - a match made in heaven for border and container displays. 'Love and Wishes' won best new variety at the Grower of the Year awards 2016, and was 3rd place in the 2015 RHS Chelsea Plant of the Year. We think 'Ember's Wish' matches it in looks and performance. Developed in Australia, both are drought-tolerant and fuss-free, and truly hardy for years of enjoyment in UK gardens. Flowering from May to November we can't think of a harder working perennial for your garden. Height and Spread: 75cm (30").

Cerinthe major 'Purpurascens'

Honeywort

 Customer Rating
Also known as Honeywort, this unusual annual bears rounded, blue-green leaves on slender, upright stems. From late spring onwards masses of nodding, rich purple flowers, surrounded by blue-purple bracts appear at the stem tips, which are highly attractive to bees. With a bushy habit, Cerinthe major ‘Purpurascens’ is a fantastic addition to annual beds or used to fill gaps in herbaceous borders, where it is happy in any well drained soil. Height: 60cm (24"). Spread: 45cm (18").
