Annual Plants

Annual plants fall under two categories - hardy and half-hardy. Hardy annuals can be grown outdoors and will tolerate cooler tempratures, whereas the more tender half-hardy annuals need protection and must not be planted out until all risk of frost has passed. These delightful summer flowers add colour and interest to beds, borders, containers and hanging baskets. Use the selections in the left menu to select the right plants for your garden.

Sweet Pea 'Alan Titchmarsh' - Part of the Alan Titchmarsh Collection

Lathyrus odoratus

  • NEW in 2013
I've loved sweet peas ever since I was a child, so to have one named after me is the ultimate accolade. It's a somewhat girly pink, but what the heck - it's beautifully fragrant and each bloom is of an exhibition standard! A spring planting of sweet peas actually gives as many blooms as a traditional autumn sowing would, so you're not too late to get some growing. Height: 1.8m (6’). Spread: 30cm (12").
