Pot up heliotrope plants using free-draining compost, and grow them on in frost free conditions until large enough to plant outside. Pinch out growing tips while the plants are still small to encourage bushier growth. Once they are well grown, acclimatise heliotrope plants to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days before planting outdoors on fertile, moist, well drained soil in a full sun.
Feed and water regularly until heliotrope plants are fully established. Deadhead faded heliotrope flowers frequently throughout summer to encourage more blooms to be produced. Heliotrope is best grown as an annual, but container-grown plants can be overwintered in a warm frost free greenhouse. Caution: All parts of Heliotrope are toxic if ingested. Contact with foliage may irritate the skin and eyes.
