Cerinthe major 'Purpurascens'

Hardy Annual

 Customer Rating
Also known as Honeywort, this unusual annual bears rounded, blue-green leaves on slender, upright stems. From late spring onwards masses of nodding, rich purple flowers, surrounded by blue-purple bracts appear at the stem tips, which are highly attractive to bees. With a bushy habit, Cerinthe major ‘Purpurascens’ is a fantastic addition to annual beds or used to fill gaps in herbaceous borders, where it is happy in any well drained soil. Height: 60cm (24"). Spread: 45cm (18").

cottage gardens, wildlife gardens

Pot up Cerinthe plants and grow them on in frost free conditions until large enough to plant outdoors. When Cerinthe plants are well grown, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days. Plant Honeywort in full sun or part shade, in poor, well drained neutral or alkaline soil. On heavier soils, incorporate plenty of grit to improve drainage, prior to planting.
Water regularly until plants are fully established. Honeywort plants seed freely. If seedlings are not required, deadhead the faded Cerinthe flowers as they fade.

  1. Beautiful plants

    By Jane Munro 01-08-2016

I've been growing these in pots and they are both unusual and beautiful. I often see them covered in bees which is such a good sign. I will definitely grow them again next year. Thank you for your great service.

Thank you very much for your review. I am glad that you have been happy with your purchase. I hope we can continue to be of service to you in the future.

  2. excellent plants

    By kathleen bates 14-09-2014

Was supposed to receive these by the end of may, but for whatever reason i didn't. I e-mailed about mid-june and finally received them towards the end of june, Planted them out straight away and they have romped on. I am very pleased with the results and the bees and other pollinators love them. They are still full of flowers and bees. Will definately buy again. I have given 4 stars for poor customer service in not informing me of the delay.

Thank you for your review. I hope we can continue to be of service.
