Curcuma Collection

Curcuma alismatifolia , Siam Tulip, Ornamental Turmeric

  • Rare summer flowering bulb
  • Be one of the first to grow these exotic Thai flowers in the UK
  • Perfect summer patio pot plant and winter houseplant.

Add a touch of Thailand to your summer patio or conservatory! You may have seen these exotic flowers in luxury tropical bouquets, but it's unlikely you've seen them growing in a garden setting here in the UK. We've managed to secure a limited stock of these unusual summer flowering bulbs, so you can be one of the first UK gardeners to add them to your displays for real wow factor on the patio this summer. Despite their exotic looks, curcuma tubers are no more difficult to grow than frost tender begonias and dahlias. Start them into growth in early spring on a warm windowsill or in the greenhouse for months of summer colour on the patio from their alien-like, waxy flowerheads. Each flower spike is a work of art and is perfectly shown off above the ornamental pleated foliage. All varieties in our mix are winter temperature hardy, but we've given them a half-hardy rating because they won't cope outside during a wet winter. If you can keep them dry, then by all means leave them outside during the colder months to go into a dormant phase, but we think you'll get more from these luxurious Siam tulips if you bring them in before the first autumn frost and let them bloom through winter on a warm windowsill. Curcuma 'Anna Pink' will add a flash of hot pink to your displays. Height: 60cm (24"). Spread 30cm (12").

  • Oxalis - This ornamental Shamrock is as versatile as it is pretty. Oxalis tetraphylla 'Iron Cross' is mainly grown for its clover-like, bright green leaves with a dark purple band at the base of each leaflet. From early summer, the distinctive foliage is paired with rosy pink, tubular flowers. Bulb size 4/5. Height and spread: 15cm (6").
  • Anemone 'De Caen' - Silky, long-lasting blooms with delicately cupped petals are carried on individual stems in a vibrant mix of bold colours. These beautiful windflowers are ideal for cutting, but make sure you leave a few in the garden as they will attract pollinating insects to their captivating blooms. Undemanding and easy to grow, this colourful mix of Anemone coronaria 'De Caen' bulbs is perfect for growing in containers or at the front of borders. Bulb size 3/4. Height: 30cm (12"). Spread: 15cm (6").
  • Brodiaea - A good all rounder, perfect for planting in containers, borders and rockeries. Produces clusters of double funnel shaped blooms in a rich bluish mauve.
