Leucocoryne bulbs require a minimum temperature of 5°C (41°F). In very mild areas, grow leucocoryne outdoors in full sun on gritty well drained soil. In frost prone areas it is advisable to grow them in a cool greenhouse or conservatory, or in patio containers that can be moved to a frost free position over winter. Use a loam based compost such as John Innes No.2. with added grit to improve drainage. Plant bulbs at a depth of 10cm (4”) and 8cm (3”) apart.
Feed and water in moderation while bulbs are in active growth. As the flowers develop the foliage will begin to wither. After flowering, reduce watering and allow the soil to dry out in order to provide the bulbs with a dry, dormant period. Leucocoryne bulbs that are grown outdoors should be mulched with chipped bark to protect them from cold wet weather over winter. Move patio containers to a frost free position over winter with a minimum temperature of 5°C (41°F).
