Hymenocallis x festalis requires a minimum temperature of 15°C (59°F). Using loam-based compost such as John Innes No. 2, plant the bulbs in containers with the neck and shoulders protruding above soil level. Space Hymenocallis bulbs approximately 20cm (8") apart. Grow spider lilies on until large enough to move outdoors when all risk of frost has passed. Choose a position in sun or semi shade.
Feed and water Hymenocallis plants regularly throughout the growing season. Move containers of spider lily plants to a warm, bright, frost-free position indoors before the first frosts. Reduce watering in the winter, making sure the compost remains just moist. When pots become congested, divide and re-pot Hymenocallis bulbs in the spring.
