Freesia Mixed

Half-hardy Corm

  • A cut flower favourite you can grow at home
  • Strong solid colours
  • Rich perfume for vase display
The Freesia 'Classic Collection' comprises a mix of strong solid flower colours for vibrant container displays in the garden or statement cut flower displays in the home. We've stuck with single flowered varieties with this elegant collection of freesia plants, in order to bring the strongest perfume to your displays. The freesia flowers are produced on short, stiff stems that won't need staking and remain proudly upright throughout the growing season. Perfect for growing in patio containers where their fragrance can be appreciated. Alternatively plant freesia corms at the front of a sunny border where you can get up close to that iconic perfume. Height: 35cm (14"). Spread: 15cm (6").

Culinary note: Infused in a tisane with lemon juice and zest, the peppery scent and bold colour are a perfect pick-me up. For more details about edible flowers click here.

In very mild areas, grow freesia bulbs outdoors in full sun on moist, free draining soil. In frost prone areas it is advisable to grow them in a greenhouse or as groups in patio containers that can be moved to a frost free position over winter. Use a loam based compost such as John innes No.2. Plant freesia bulbs at a depth of 7cm and 10cm (4") apart.
Water freesias frequently throughout summer. As they begin die back in the autumn, reduce watering and remove the old foliage. Freesias that are grown in borders outdoors should be mulched with chipped bark to protect them from cold wet weather over winter. Move patio containers of bulbs to a frost free position during their dormant winter period until they burst back through the soil surface the following spring.
