Hyacinth 'Breeder's Selection'

Hyacinthus orientalis

Hardy Bulb

As with all breeding programmes, only a handful of varieties are selected for commercial production and the bulbs that are discarded are often unique and spectacular in their own right. We're privileged to offer you a unique collection of supreme hyacinth bulbs, specially selected by the breeder.More compact that many varieties, these hyacinths have shorter stems that are densely packed with colour-rich flowers and a powerful scent. Fantastic for spring displays in borders or containers indoors. Hyacinth flowers make lovely cut flowers too. You can't buy these bulbs from anywhere else!Height: 20cm (8”). Spread: 8cm (3”). Bulb size: 16/17.

Grow hyacinths in moist, fertile well drained soil in sun or semi shade. Plant hyacinth bulbs approximately 10cm (4") deep and at a distance of 8cm (3") apart. To grow hyacinths for indoor displays, plant them in containers of bulb fibre or potting compost with the tip of the bulb just visible above the soil surface. Position them in a cool garage or other well ventilated, dark position at a maximum temperature of 7°C (44°F) for around 6 weeks. Water bulbs only when necessary in order to keep the compost moist. When the growing shoots reach a height of 3cm (1"), move the containers to a cool bright position indoors.
Water container-grown hyacinths with care. Avoid over wetting the compost or allowing it to dry out. After flowering, indoor displays can be planted out doors where they will bloom the following spring. Hyacinths that are planted outdoors are virtually maintenance free. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes, harmful if eaten.

Reviews
  1. Not as pictured!

    By Christina Chivers 16-02-2011

Yes, they have a strong scent and yes, the colours are pretty, but ... I ordered 10 bulbs and got 4 pinks, 2 purples and 2 whites and 2 never came up. Most importantly, all of them flowered at different times so I was not able to enjoy them as was pictured, which was very disappointing. I never got any yellows, apricots or lilacs.
