Betula nana (Large Plant)

This unusual dwarf Birch is rarely seen but makes a fine specimen shrub for borders and the edge of woodland plantings. Betula nana has a low spreading habit with stiff stems that form a dense shrub. From March to May the brown catkins nestle among glossy, kidney shaped foliage. As summer ends, the leaves turn to colourful shades of buttery yellow and red. This tough little Birch is an arctic native growing predominantly on tundra, which makes it a great choice for shallow soils. Height: 60cm (24”). Spread: 120cm (48”).

Katsura tree (Large Plant)

Cercidiphyllum japonicum

A fast growing tree with a long period of interest that will delight the senses! Tiny red flowers decorate the naked branches of the Katsura Tree in spring, before the young rounded, leaves break bud in a glorious display of bronze pink foliage. As summer progresses, the foliage colours to a fresh shade of bright green, before changing once again with the autumn to a vivid gold and orange. Even the fallen autumn leaves will provide interest by filling the air with a sugary fragrance of candy-floss that is almost irresistible. Cercidiphyllum japonicum holds an RHS AGM and makes a superb multi-stemmed specimen tree for a small garden or woodland area. Ultimate height and spread: 10m (32ft).

Cercis siliquastrum (Large Plant)

Judas Tree

Also known as the Judas Tree, Cercis siliquastrum is a bushy, well-branched tree, which can be suitable for smaller gardens. The rosy-pink blooms are actually produced on the older wood stems, giving a lovely pendant effect.

The heart-shaped leaves are attractive, and appear after the flowers, and turn lustrous yellow by autumn. The Judas Tree is a true architectural plant, and looks especially impressive when in bloom during the spring. Some of the most spectacular spring colour for the garden! Height and Spread: up to 10m (32').

Salix babylonica 'Tortuosa' (Large Plant)

Twisted Willow, Corkscrew Willow, Dragon's Claw Willow

Commonly known as the Twisted Willow, or Corkscrew Willow, this deciduous tree is known for its bizarre contorted growing habits. Fast growing, Salix babylonica 'Tortuosa', soon produces growth that twists and turns like a corkscrew for no apparent reason, even the leaves will do the same. In spring, yellow catkins will appear on the bare branches before the bright green foliage makes an appearance. The branches of this plant are prized by flower arrangers as the strange, random shapes help add interest to the arrangement. Height: 15m (49'). Spread: 8m (26')
