Weigela florida 'Wings of Fire' (Large Plant)

Hardy Shrub

Weigela florida 'Wings of Fire' is best known for its magnificent foliage which starts out medium green in spring, when clusters of pink trumpet-shape flowers form along the branches. Once the blooms come to an end in late spring, the foliage takes over, changing to an attractive variegated red. As autumn approaches, leaves turn a show-stopping fiery-red. Grow Weigela in a sunny or semi shaded position, in any well drained soil. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant Weigela at the same depth as they were planted in their pots. Backfill the planting hole and water well to settle the soil.
Water regularly throughout the growing season until young plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Weigela requires little pruning. After flowering cut back stems to a healthy bud and remove a fifth of the old stems to ground level.
