Viburnum sargentii 'Onondaga' (Large Plant)

Hardy Shrub

A holder of the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit, Viburnum sargentii 'Onondaga' is an easy to grow yet rewarding deciduous shrub that will perform well in most garden situations. Deep purple tinted leaves emerge in spring which eventually mature to a rich green colour and then return to their original purple before they fall. The flowers of this hardy plant have large white sterile blooms surrounding a mass of tiny red buds in a "lacecap" style, these tiny buds eventually open into a profusion of pink tinged flowers which will be very attractive to all pollinating insects. Height: 250cm (98"). Spread: 150cm (59")

Grow Viburnum plants in a sunny or semi shaded position, in any moderately fertile, well drained soil. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Plant Viburnum shrubs at the same depth as they were planted in their pots. Backfill the planting hole and water well to settle the soil.
Water regularly throughout the growing season until young plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Viburnum requires little pruning. After flowering cut back stems to a healthy bud and reduce any stems that spoil the symmetry of the plant. Caution: Harmful if eaten.
