Skimmia japonica subsp. reevesiana (Large Plant)

Hardy Shrub

Ideal for patio pots or shrub borders alike, Skimmia japonica subsp. reevesiana, is a tough, hardy evergreen shrub that will provide you with continuous interest all throughout the year. Forming a small, rounded shape naturally, this versatile plant will produce dense clusters of pink tinged, white flowers in mid spring, these will develop during the summer and autumn into bright red, glossy berries that can last well into the winter months. The plant is self-fertile too so it will produce it's fruit without the need for another pollinating partner. Height: 100cm (39"). Spread: 100cm (39").

Grow Skimmia plants in a dappled or fully shaded position, in moderately fertile, rich, well drained soil which can be neutral to acidic in pH. Avoid full sun, as this can cause yellowing of the leaves. Alternatively grow Skimmia in large containers, using a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3 mixed with ericaceous (acidic) compost.
Skimmia plants will require very little pruning. After flowering, trim them lightly to keep a good shape, and remove any dead or damaged growth.
