Description

This popular shrub is most commonly used as an evergreen hedging plant. Masses of tiny, dark green leaves crowd the long stems of Lonicera nitida, forming a dense bushy plant that tolerates regular pruning. Not surprisingly, it is sometimes described as 'Poor Man's Yew', offering a cheaper, yet no less effective option, for creating formal hedges and topiary. From March to May, this shrubby Honeysuckle is adorned with small, creamy white flowers which are followed by a scattering of purple-blue berries. Easy to grow and maintain, this versatile shrub makes a fine hedge or can be grown as a large specimen plant if left unpruned. Height: 3.5m (11') if left unpruned. Spread: 3m (10') if left unpruned.

For instant impact try one of one of our innovative trough-grown hedges! Each trough contains a 1 metre length of pre-planted hedging to create a mature looking hedge from the very moment it is planted. With well-established root systems, you’ll find that trough-grown hedges are correctly spaced, making them much easier to plant. The healthy framework of branches are nicely knitted together, and can be trimmed to the ideal height immediately after planting. Better still, you can plant them all year round, so long as adequate irrigation is provided. If planting is delayed then trough-grown hedges can be easily maintained until you are ready, without the need for ‘heeling in’.

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.
