Cornus kousa var. chinensis 'China Girl' (Large Plant)

Japanese Dogwood

Hardy Shrub

Introduced as an improved early flowering form of dogwood, boasting masses of large, creamy-white flower bracts in late spring. Brightly coloured, strawberry-like fruits follow the flowers in autumn, together with beautiful shades of red-orange foliage before falling.

For best performance, we recommend planting Cornus kousa var. chinensis 'China Girl' in full sun in a large container or in a sunny border - flower impact depends very much on the weather conditions from the previous year; a long hot summer will produce a magnificent array of flowers and a cold, wet summer will result in poorer flower displays.

Height: 7m (23'). Spread: 5m (16.5').

Grow Cornus plants in any well drained soil. Choose a position in full sun.
Feed and water dogwoods regularly until fully established. Once established, they will require less attention. To encourage plenty of colourful stems, Dogwood will need regular pollarding in early spring. Cut back all dogwood stems to 3 buds above soil level or to a permanent low framework. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or other organic matter around the base of the plant after pruning. Caution: Dogwood berries are harmful if eaten. Irritant to skin and eyes.
