An unusual but attractive suckering, deciduous shrub, producing small, sweet-scented, rose-pink flowers in late summer and autumn. Clerodendrum bungei is very reliable and its dark green leaves have a light scent, which some gardeners find very pleasant, relating the fragrance to peanut butter, while others match the smell to drains. A native to China, commonly grown as an indoor plant in the UK, although it can be grown outside if positioned in a sheltered corner. Height & Spread: 2.5m (8').
Clerodendrum is a semi-herbaceous shrub so in mild winters the plant will survive, but in cold winters it will die back to the ground and grow from the base in the following spring.
Plants will start to produce suckers over time and if these are not removed, they will grow to form a clump. Slug protection is advised if planting in a vulnerable site.
