Camellia ‘Brushfield’s Yellow’ is guaranteed to give you a stunning spring display with its glossy leaves reflecting the sunlight, and the beautiful blooms opening to reveal their white outer petals and creamy-yellow ruffled centres. Make this shrub the centrepiece of a spring display bed which will continue its interest throughout the summer months too. Height: 400cm (157"). Spread: 250cm (98").

Culinary note: The flowers can be used as garnishes but are also dried and then cooked in Asian cuisine. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Camellia plants require a moist, well drained, acid soil in a sheltered, shaded position. In areas where acid soil does not naturally occur, grow Camellia plants in patio containers using a mix of ericaceous compost and John Innes No. 3 and position in dappled shade.

Water regularly until plants are fully established. Where possible, use rainwater as the lime contained in tap water will reduce the acidity in the soil over time. Feed Camellias occasionally with fertiliser for acid-loving plants. Protect plants from cold winter winds and strong early morning sunlight, as this may cause the buds to drop in early spring.

Camellias will appreciate an autumn mulch to protect their roots from winter cold. Camellias require little pruning other than to maintain their shape. Lightly trim stems and remove faded blooms immediately after flowering.
