Flowering Months

A white version of the popular polyantha rose 'The Fairy'. The elegant blooms are fully double with an old fashioned, wide open form that shows off its many layers of petals. Rose 'White Fairy' form a well branched plant cloaked in glossy, dark green foliage. This attractive variety is ideal for adding to summer flower arrangements and makes a wonderful addition to sunny borders and rose gardens. Height: 75cm (30"). Spread: 100cm (39").

Culinary note: Some parts of these flowers are edible. Rosehips and petals can be used in making syrups and the petals will add flavour to cold drinks or fruit dishes. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Companion planting: Try growing roses with garlic, chives, thyme or mint to help deter aphids and blackfly.

How to Grow

Plant roses at the earliest opportunity following delivery. To avoid the risk from the build-up of harmful soil organisms and disease, choose an open position in full sun that has not been planted with roses in recent years. Roses enjoy a rich, fertile, well drained soil. Dig in plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting roses and add a small handful of granular fertiliser to the planting hole.

Feed and water rose plants regularly and deadhead faded flowers. When growing roses it is necessary to remove any suckers that arise from the base of the plant, below the graft union. In winter, begin pruning Polyantha roses by removing dead and diseased wood, and any rubbing or damaged branches. Then reduce the stems to 20cm (10") above ground level. Side shoots should be reduced to two buds. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant after pruning.
