Pot up plants using free-draining compost, and grow them on in frost free conditions until large enough to plant outside. Once they are well grown, acclimatise English lavender plants to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days before planting out on free draining soil in full sun. Lavenders dislike wet ground, particularly during winter. Improve heavy soil conditions by adding coarse grit or sharp sand prior to planting. When growing English lavender in large patio containers, use a well drained soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. After planting, prune lavender plants to encourage bushy growth.
Water regularly throughout summer until lavender plants are fully established. Once established, they are reasonably drought tolerant. Immediately after flowering, prune English lavender back to within 2cm (1") of the previous year's growth to maintain a compact, well shaped plant. Culinary idea: Make delicious lavender sugar or lavender and mint jelly from the freshly picked flowers.

  1. Beautiful little plants

    By Lisa Smith 15-06-2016

Just to balance the reviews, my plug plants arrived in perfect condition and I was absolutely delighted with them. Every one has grown nicely since potting on and I've planted about half into the garden so far, where they are doing well. Perhaps I was luckier with the speed of delivery this time.

Thank you so much for taking the time to let us know how pleased you are with your plants. It's lovely to hear such kind comments. I hope we can continue to be of service to you in the future.

  2. All dried out :(

    By James Rafferty 03-06-2016

Unfortunately, my 72 plug plants arrived after almost 4 days in the post, in pretty hot weather, and are very dried out. They look to be beyond redemption. I have never had any problem with plants from T&M in the past, but I am sure that these mini plugs are not really suitable for any postal service that takes more than 24 hours, as there is virtually no soil to retain moisture. I am doubtful that I will be able to rescue more than half a dozen from the entire delivery.
