Hydrangea paniculata 'Dart's Little Dot' is an ideal variety for containers as well as borders and shrubberies. This compact deciduous bush produces clusters of white flowers in a pyramid like shape, differing from the usual hydrangeas. These blooms will gradually fade to a reddish pink as the season progresses, adding further interest. Easy to grow and requiring little maintenance, paniculata hydrangeas are reliable shrubs for any garden. Height: 120cm (47"). Spread: 120cm (47").

How to Grow

Hydrangea paniculata prefers a sunny or semi shaded position, with shelter from cold, drying winds. Grow hydrangea plants in any non alkaline, fertile, moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding with plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply.

Water regularly until plants are fully established. Leave the faded hydrangea flower heads in place until the new buds swell in spring to protect the delicate buds from frost damage. Prune after flowering, reducing the stems to restrict their growth to the available space and to improve the shape of the plant. If necessary, Hydrangea paniculata will tolerate hard pruning of the oldest stems to a few buds from ground level. This will also encourage larger flower heads to be produced. After pruning hydrangeas, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes, harmful if eaten.
