The fruits of this large shrub are probably its most striking feature; also known as the Blue Bean Shrub, or - more ominously - Dead Man's Fingers, Decaisnea Fargesii is an interesting addition to a collection, or can be used as a stand--alone specimen plant. A yellowish green flower will appear in early summer, hanging in panicles up to 45cm (18") long, which are fragrant during the evening. From these, the bean like fruits will form and also hang in clumps of three, looking very much like "dead man's fingers", the sweet flesh of the fruits is edible and considered a delicacy in some parts of the world. Height: 6m (20'). Spread 6m (20').
