Agapanthus 'Flower of Love'

  • The bluest agapanthus blooms
  • Lush evergreen foliage
  • Thrives on neglect!

The perfect African lily for UK gardens! The deep blue florets of Agapanthus ‘Flower of Love’ are some of the darkest in the genus. Set above lush, strappy evergreen foliage, the exotic blooms make a real statement in sunny borders and patio container displays, returning each summer and getting better every year. Hardier than most other modern introductions, Agapanthus ‘Flower of Love’ requires little upkeep, performing well on the poorest of soils, and in the confines of a patio pot, where good drainage is provided. There’s no need for regular feeding or cutting back, simply apply a balanced feed each spring and cut back spent flower stalks in autumn. Foliage stays green year-round, offering valuable winter ground cover. Height: 60cm (24"). Spread: 60cm (24").

Trachelospermum asiaticum 'Variegata'

  • Variegated version of a patio favourite
  • Evergreen climber for screening and privacy
  • Jasmine-scented blooms through summer

Climbing trachelospermum are grown for their fragrant jasmine flowers and dark evergreen foliage. This flashy star jasmine adds another dimension with creamy-splashed foliage perfect for lifting shady walls, fences and trelliswork. You'll be knocked out by the potent fragrance of the twinkly little blooms. The evergreen foliage also becomes tinged with crimson towards the autumn. This sturdy climber reaches 1.8m (6ft) in 3 yrs, but can also be used as trailing groundcover.

There's none of that dark sooty mould that grows on dark leaved varieties - the aphids that cause the problem just don’t like variegated leaves and steer clear! Best planted in a sheltered sunny aspect to encourage the strongest perfume. Height and spread: 3m (118").

Abelia 'Pink Pong'

  • Six months colour
  • Fragrant blooms
  • Evergreen foliage

Sumptuously scented mauve flowers make ‘Pink Pong’ a stand out introduction. This hard working shrub offers year-round interest thanks to fully evergreen foliage - Abelia ‘Pink Pong’ won’t lose its leaves in winter like other abelias, but it is the long season of floral interest that sets this fragrant shrub out from the crowd. Large tubular flowers appear from May right through October, offering colour and honey-scent for six months of the year. As the flowers fade in autumn, their purple-copper bases (calyces) take over, extending the colour interest into winter. Excellent as hedging or a stand-alone specimen shrub. Height: 150cm (59"). Spread: 120cm (47").

Peony 'Candy Stripe'

Paeonia lactiflora

  • Possibly the prettiest spring bloom you could grow
  • Classic cottage garden favourite with a modern twist
  • Marbled, fragrant spring flowers bring years of pleasure

Peonies are a cottage garden staple. We’ve kept the classic shape and style with our latest introduction, but offer a modern twist with the unique flower marbling and strong fruity fragrance of Peony ‘Candy Stripe’. We recommend the use of plant supports with Peony ‘Candy Stripe’ to preserve and enjoy the large silky, powderpuff blooms for as long as possible. Peonies last a lifetime in the garden, getting bigger and better with age, so are always worth the investment. Make use of the addictive blooms in cutflower displays too. Height: 90cm (35"). Berkheya purpurea

  • The thistle that thinks it’s a sunflower!
  • Unusual border flower
  • Excellent dried cut flower

Nicknamed the 'purple sunflower', this shining beauty makes a fantastic border plant, producing a neat, ground-hugging rosette of thistle-like foliage and a striking flower stem that demands attention in any planting display. The gently prickled leaves make it a good plant to discourage pets and other unwanted visitors away from your prized borders!

Like many other South African species, Berkheya plants are very undemanding, simply requiring a sunny spot on free draining soil. Multiple flowers appear in late summer in a silvery shade of soft violet, creating a real wow factor. The stems make unusual fresh or dried cutflowers. Best planted under a south-facing wall and given some winter frost protection in colder parts of the UK. Height: 75cm (30"). Spread: 50cm (20").
