Star Jasmine, Confederate Jasmine, Jasmine trachelospermum
Although Trachelopsermum jasminoides is not of the Jasmine family, it is often confused as such for its common name of Star Jasmine. This elegant evergreen climber bears thousands of pure white, star-shaped flowers throughout summer on twining woody stems. The glossy, evergreen foliage forms the perfect backdrop for its dramatic blooms which perfume the air with an irresistible, sweet fragrance. A stunning addition to a scented patio garden or grown against a sheltered wall for a truly glamorous display. Height and spread: 3m (9'). More info
Trachelospermum asiaticum 'Variegata'
Variegated Star Jasmine
Climbing trachelospermum are grown for their fragrant jasmine flowers and dark evergreen foliage. This flashy star jasmine adds another dimension with creamy-splashed foliage perfect for lifting shady walls, fences and trelliswork. You'll be knocked out by the potent fragrance of the twinkly little blooms. The evergreen foliage also becomes tinged with crimson towards the autumn. This sturdy climber reaches 1.8m (6ft) in 3 yrs, but can also be used as trailing groundcover.
There's none of that dark sooty mould that grows on dark leaved varieties - the aphids that cause the problem just don’t like variegated leaves and steer clear! Best planted in a sheltered sunny aspect to encourage the strongest perfume. Height and spread: 3m (118").More info
