Fountain Grass, Pennisetum rueppellii

Pot up plants and grow them on in warm frost free conditions for transplanting into beds, borders and containers later on. Water sparingly until pennisetum plants are fully rooted into their containers. When they are well grown, and all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days. Plant fountain grass in moist, light, well drained soil in full sun.
Water when necessary to prevent the soil from drying out. Take care not to overwater as Pennisetum will rot in wet soils. Pennisetum setaceum 'Fireworks' is often grown as an annual. However, where plants are grown in containers they may be moved to a frost free position over winter. Apply a dry mulch such as bark or straw to protect the crown of the plant. Cut back dead foliage in spring.

Reviews
  1. Dried, brown and dead

    By Rachel Knapman 26-06-2015

Delivery was received quickly, however, when packaging was opened the 'jumbo plug' turned out to be a lot of loose soil and some dry, brown looking grass. I gave it the benefit of the doubt, potted it straight away and gave it a good water but it still looks dry and brown with no signs of life. Waste of money!

  2. Disappointing

    By Carol Blight 10-06-2015

Sadly Royal Mail took 5 days to deliver this plug plant which had plenty of root and although it was planted as soon as it arrived it failed to prosper and is now just a brown, dry tuft!
