Strikingly vivid red stems of Cornus sericea 'Cardinal' make a bold statement in any border or woodland garden during the Winter months. This spreading, deciduous shrub provides so much in your garden with very little effort; white flowers in Spring turn to blue/white berries by Autumn, just when the leaves are also turning red and yellow. An ideal plant for the back of a border or part of a shrubbery. Height: 200cm (79"). Spread: 400cm (157").

How to Grow

Grow Cornus plants in any well drained soil. Choose a position in full sun.

Feed and water dogwoods regularly until fully established. Once established, they will require less attention. To encourage plenty of colourful stems, Dogwood will need regular pollarding in early spring. Cut back all dogwood stems to 3 buds above soil level or to a permanent low framework. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or other organic matter around the base of the plant after pruning. Caution: Dogwood berries are harmful if eaten. Irritant to skin and eyes.
