Grown for its magnificent large, glossy foliage, Liriodendron tulipifera makes a remarkably eye catching tree for the larger garden. The distinctly shaped leaves turn from green to a buttery shade of gold in a spectacular autumn display. With maturity, the Tulip Tree becomes decorated with large, individual tulip shaped, green-white summer flowers that are followed by cone-like fruits - although flowering may not occur for 10 years or more. This RHS AGM species forms a vigorous, large columnar tree that requires plenty of space to be appreciated at its best. Height: 20m (65'). Spread: 10m (32').

Grow Tulip Trees in a sunny or semi shaded position. Plant Liriodendron tulipifera in a rich, moist, well drained, neutral to slightly acid soil. Incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost to improve the soil prior to planting, mixing it thoroughly and deeply.
More Info Water regularly throughout the growing season until young Liriodendron trees are fully established. Tulip trees require little pruning other than to maintain their shape and remove damaged or crossing stems in late winter or early spring.
