Bare Root Trees & Plants

Bare root plants are ideal for money-saving, reliable and low-maintenance gardening. Costs are reduced as there's no container or soil. Bare root plants establish themselves quickly, are less likely to fail than plants in full bloom, and require less watering than those planted in summer months. So what are you waiting for? When you receive a bare root plant or tree, it will arrive in a dormant state as this is the perfect time for transporting and planting it. Try to plant up as soon as possible; if this is not immediately possible, you will need to soak your bare root plant in a half filled bucket of water to moisten the roots and stand it in a cool frost free place. The plant will remain in good condition for a week or so. If planting will be delayed for longer, the plant should be 'heeled in' to a temporary planting hole in the soil. For more advice read 'What to do with bare root plants when they arrive' and our bare root tree planting guide.
